Course overview
CPC40920 – Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services is a nationally recognised qualification designed for experienced plumbing professionals seeking to further develop the advanced technical knowledge and practical skills required to undertake specialised plumbing and hydraulic services work.
Throughout this qualification, students develop advanced skills in hydraulic services design, plumbing system planning, project estimation and costing, regulatory compliance, water, sanitary and stormwater system design, gas installations, project coordination and workplace risk management while applying industry standards, legislative requirements and work health and safety (WHS) practices.
Depending on the selected stream, students will develop specialist knowledge in either hydraulic services design or plumbing operations, preparing them to undertake technical, supervisory and design responsibilities across residential, commercial and industrial projects.
Successful completion of this qualification may support employment opportunities within the plumbing and services industry and may assist graduates in meeting qualification requirements for certain occupational licences or registrations, subject to the requirements of the relevant state or territory licensing authority.

Industry requirements
- Students seeking to enrol in this qualification should possess approximately one to two years of relevant industry experience or demonstrate equivalent vocational skills within the plumbing industry.
- For students enrolling in the Operations Stream, applicants must hold CPC32420 – Certificate III in Plumbing, or be authorised to undertake plumbing work by the relevant Australian regulatory or licensing authority.
- Students must also be competent in CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.
- The plumbing industry requires that training and assessment leading to this qualification be undertaken within real or closely simulated workplace environments to ensure graduates develop the practical competencies expected by industry.
- Completion of the General Construction Induction Training Program specified under the Model Code of Practice for Construction Work is required before entering a construction worksite. Achievement of CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry satisfies this requirement.

Students may also be required to use industry-specific equipment, software and workplace documentation relevant to the selected stream of this qualification. Students will be advised prior to enrolment of any additional materials, equipment or personal protective equipment (PPE) that they are required to supply.
Assessment methods
Assessment is designed to determine whether students can demonstrate the knowledge and practical skills required to achieve competency in each unit of competency. Assessment is conducted in accordance with the Principles of Assessment and Rules of Evidence contained within the Standards for RTOs.

As required by the CPC Training Package, training and assessment for this qualification are undertaken in real or closely simulated workplace environments to ensure learners demonstrate competency under industry conditions. Students will receive information regarding assessment requirements prior to commencing each unit. Reasonable adjustment may be provided where appropriate, provided the integrity of the assessment outcomes is maintained.

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
ATR – Alpha Training & Recognition Ltd recognises that students may have already developed the skills and knowledge required for some or all of the units within this qualification through previous work experience, formal training, informal learning, or life experience.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process that evaluates an individual's existing skills and knowledge against the requirements of the relevant units of competency.
Students wishing to apply for RPL will be required to provide sufficient, valid, authentic and current evidence to demonstrate that they meet the requirements of the unit(s). Evidence may include employment history, reference letters, qualifications, licences, workplace documents, photographs, videos, logbooks or other relevant documentation.
Each application is assessed individually by a qualified assessor. Granting of RPL is not automatic and depends on whether the evidence provided demonstrates competency in accordance with the requirements of the Training Package.
Credit Transfer applications are assessed before Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) applications where applicable.

Students interested in applying for RPL are encouraged to contact ATR before enrolling to discuss their eligibility and the evidence requirements.
Credit transfer
ATR recognises nationally recognised training completed with another Registered Training Organisation (RTO) through its Credit Transfer process.
Students who have successfully completed identical units of competency may be eligible for Credit Transfer where the unit code and title are equivalent or have been deemed equivalent under the relevant Training Package transition arrangements.
Students applying for Credit Transfer must provide certified copies of their Statement of Attainment, Record of Results or USI VET Transcript prior to enrolment or as early as possible during the enrolment process.
Approved Credit Transfers may reduce the amount of training and assessment required to complete the qualification.
Students should contact ATR if they believe they may be eligible for Credit Transfer.
Packaging rules
- To achieve this qualification, students must successfully complete 15 units of competency consisting of 10 core units and 5 elective units.
- Elective units must ensure the integrity of the qualification's Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) alignment and contribute to a valid, industry-supported vocational outcome.
- Hydraulic Services Design Stream: to achieve CPC40920 – Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services (Hydraulic Services Design), students must successfully complete 10 core units and 5 elective units selected from Group A. Up to 2 elective units may be selected from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at Certificate IV level or above, provided they do not duplicate the outcome of another unit selected for the qualification. Elective units cannot be selected from Group B.
- Operations Stream: to achieve CPC40920 – Certificate IV in Plumbing and Services (Operations), students must successfully complete 10 core units, at least 1 elective unit from Group B, and the remaining 4 elective units selected from Group A or Group B. Up to 2 elective units may be selected from any currently endorsed Training Package or accredited course at Certificate IV level or above, provided they do not duplicate the outcome of another unit selected for the qualification.

Practical training and workplace requirements
This qualification includes extensive practical training designed to develop advanced technical skills relevant to the plumbing and services industry. Practical activities are conducted within ATR's training facilities, real workplace environments and/or closely simulated workplace environments in accordance with the requirements of the CPC Training Package. Depending on the selected stream, students will undertake practical activities relating to plumbing operations, hydraulic services design and associated workplace responsibilities.

Where workplace-based training or assessment is required, students will be advised of any employer, workplace or licensing requirements before commencement. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required for all students undertaking nationally recognised training in Australia.
Students must provide a valid USI prior to the issuance of a Statement of Attainment or Qualification.
